This riotous comedy centers on two down-at-the heels-itinerant Shakespearean actors, who, tired of performing in seedy venues, happen upon an fortuitous opportunity.  They learn that an elderly widow has been unable to find her two grandchildren, Max and Steve, whom she intends to make her heirs.  The actors pose as Max and Steve to claim the inheritance, but when they discover that "Max" and "Steve" are actually "Maxine" and "Stephanie," they continue on, undaunted, in drag.
